Public opinion and death penalty: the strategy of prevention.

The author discusses the application of death penalty in Western Europe, Scandinavia and other countries of the world during several hundreds of years. In the article, the current situation in Lithuania and the problem of death penalty application in Lithuania is also described. Moreover, the main idea of the article is proven that public opinion cannot be equalled with the will of the nation and that it is not possible to find the essential answer concerning the solution of the problem of death penalty application in Lithuania by conducting a public opinion research.Straipsnyje aptariama mirties bausmės taikymo Vakarų Europos, Skandinavijos ir kitose pasaulio šalyse raida per pastaruosius kelis šimtus metų bei mirties bausmės taikymo Lietuvoje problemos tyrimo aktualijos. Be to, pagrindžiama pagrindinė straipsnio idėja, kad viešoji nuomonė nėra tolygi tautos valiai ir kad viešosios nuomonės tyrimu negalima atsakyti į klausimą, kaip Lietuvoje turi būti išspęstas mirties bausmės klausimas
