Evaluation of companies’ intellectual capital influence on their market value in the Baltic states

The dissertation provides an attempt to solve the following scientific problem: how a company‘ s intellectual capital should be evaluated and what impact it has on the company‘s market value. While trying to create a model that would enable to measure the influence that company‘s intellectual capital has on its market value, difficulties were found in the measurement of the intellectual capital itself. The abundance of researches on company‘s intellectual capital, ambiguous usage of various concepts and definitions, different elements of company‘s intellectual capital that researchers analyze tend to overlap with one another are some of the main factors that lead to the absence of in-depth studies on intellectual capital and encourage to conduct further research in this field. A complex model that deals with the evaluation of the impact of company‘s intellectual capital on its market value is presented in the dissertation. The model is essential and exceptional as its values are specified using factor analysis and in order to calculate the aggregated index of companies‘ intellectual capital, the identification of precise factor values is used. A method for evaluating the effect a company‘s intellectual capital has on its value is produced; it allows to determine the influence of company‘s intellectual capital and its separate components in different companies and to distinguish the main elements of companies‘ intellectual capital that it has on its market value. In order to empirically assess the model to evaluate the impact of company‘s intellecual capital on its market value, the information of listed companies of Baltic states has been applied. The findings of the dissertation prove that company‘s intellectual capital and its components have a statistically significant effect for its market value. The model used to measure the impact of company‘s intellectual capital on its market value is universal and can be applied not only to determine the connection and impact when it comes to groups of companies, but it can also be used to find the connection of an individual company‘s intellectual capital and its market value. The suggested model stands out from among others as it allows the company‘s intellectual capital to be investigated in a complex manner, compare the intellectual capital and its components of individual companies and the impact it has on the market value.Daktaro disertacijoje sprendžiama mokslinė problema, kaip reikėtų vertinti įmonės intelektinį kapitalą ir kokią įtaką jis turi jos rinkos vertei. Siekiant sukurti modelį, kurio pagalba būtų galima vertinti, kokią įtaką intelektinis kapitalas turi įmonės rinkos vertei, susidurta su paties intelektinio kapitalo vertinimo problema. Įmonės intelektinio kapitalo tyrimų gausa, nevienareikšmiškai naudojamos sąvokos, mokslininkų nagrinėjamos skirtingos viena su kita persidengiančios įmonės intelektinio kapitalo dedamosios lemia intelektinio kapitalo išsamių tyrimų trūkumą ir skatina atlikti tolesnius tyrinėjimus šioje srityje. Disertacijoje parengtas kompleksinis įmonės intelektinio kapitalo įtakos jos rinkos vertei tyrimo modelis, išskirtinis tuo, kad jame rodikliai yra patikslinami atliekant faktorinę analizę, o įmonių intelektinio kapitalo agreguotam indeksui apskaičiuoti taikomi tikslieji faktorių reikšmių nustatymo metodai. Parengta įmonės intelektinio kapitalo įtakos jos rinkos vertei vertinimo metodika, leidžianti nustatyti įmonės intelektinio kapitalo ir jo dedamųjų įtaką skirtingose įmonėse ir išskirti pagrindinius įmonių intelektinio kapitalo elementus, darančius įtaką jų rinkos vertei. Įmonės intelektinio kapitalo įtakos jos rinkos vertei vertinimo modeliui empiriškai patikrinti buvo remtasi Baltijos šalių listinguojamų įmonių informacija. Disertacijoje pagrįsta, kad įmonės intelektinis kapitalas ir jo dedamosios daro statistiškai reikšmingą įtaką jos rinkos vertei. Įmonės intelektinio kapitalo įtakos jos rinkos vertei vertinimo modelis yra universalus ir gali būti taikomas ne tik įmonių grupių, bet ir atskiros įmonės intelektinio kapitalo ir jos rinkos vertės sąsajų nustatymui. Pasiūlytasis modelis išsiskiria tuo, kad įmonės intelektinis kapitalas tiriamas kompleksiškai, leidžia palyginti atskirų įmonių intelektinį kapitalą, jo dedamąsias ir įtaką jų rinkos vertei
