Observance of professional ethical principles in practical activities of police officers

This article focuses on the observance of the professional ethics principles in day-to-day practical activities of police officers. The essence of the survey was the opinion of prospective police officers who had completed at least one traineeship practice on how police officers adhere to the principles of the Code of Ethics during their service. The subject of the research is the observance of the principles of professional ethics of police officers. The aim of the article is to analyze the observance of the principles of professional ethics of police officers in practical activities, justifying his expression as a provision of a future police officer. To achieve the goal, the following research objectives have been raised: 1) to reveal the provisions of future officials to the current situation of implementation of the principles of professional ethics of police officers in practical activities and 2) to analyze how various personal factors (sex, available professional information (study course), close environment) influence the assessment of the behavior of police officers according to ethical principles. The data was collected using a quantitative survey method - a questionnaire, a statistical analysis of the data, and the processing of the study data using the Microsoft Excel 2010 version program. The results of the research show that the highest ratings were collected by the principle of responsibility, i.e. y assuming the official's personal responsibility for the decisions taken and the disclosure and transfer of information received during the service to other persons. The results of the research revealed that during the service the police officers do not adequately observe the principles of decency and justice, rules of wearing uniforms, and various personal factors (sex, available professional information (study course), close environment) have a significant influence on the assessment of the behavior of police officers according to ethical principles.Šiame straipsnyje akcentuojamas policijos pareigūnų profesinės etikos principų laikymasis kasdienėje praktinėje veikloje. Tyrimo esmę sudarė būsimų policijos pareigūnų, atlikusių bent vieną mokomąją̨ praktiką, nuomonė į tai, kaip policijos pareigūnai tarnybos metu laikosi etikos kodekse numatytų principų. Straipsnio tikslas – analizuoti policijos pareigūnų profesinės etikos principų laikymąsi praktinėje veikloje, atskleidžiant jo raišką būsimų policijos pareigūnų nuostatomis. Duomenys tyrimui rinkti naudojant kiekybinio tyrimo metodą – anketavimą, atlikta statistinė duomenų analizė, tyrimo duomenis apdorojant Microsoft Excel 2010 versijos programa. Tyrimo rezultatai rodo, kad aukščiausius įvertinimus surinko atsakingumo principas, t. y. pareigūno asmeninės atsakomybės prisiėmimas už̌ priimtus sprendimus ir informacijos, gautos tarnybos metu, neviešinimas ir neperdavimas kitiems asmenims. Tyrimo rezultatai atskleidė, kad policijos pareigūnai tarnybos metu nepakankamai laikosi padorumo ir teisingumo principų, uniformos dėvėjimo taisyklių̨, o įvairūs asmens faktoriai (lytis, turima profesinė informacija (studijų kursas), artima aplinka) daro reikšmingą įtaką vertinant policijos pareigūnų elgesį pagal etikos principus
