The article discusses concisely the status of the sacral Latin and Greek languages and alphabets in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, their functioning and relations with the lingua vernacula (Polish, Lithuanian, Ruthenian). The importance of the grammars of these languages as a universal preview of languages and a guarantee of their rationality is noted. Examples are provided about how the sacral and national languages interacted. It is revealed how the everyday languages maintained their dignity from the real and supposed ties with the sacral languages. Finally one and the other conveying alphabets changed places and eventually testified to the establishment of the Latin alphabet as a sign of European identity
