Civic education in social work and social education study programme: the social educator master’s degree program at Vilnius Pedagogical University

Continuing ideas of J. Laužikas this article tries to analyze theoretical assumptions and tendencies of social education in Lithuania as well as in other European countries and in the USA. The authors look for links of the Lithuanian model of social pedagogy with trends of social education in the world. Analyzing a relation of a traditional social work and social pedagogy in pursuit to ensure a child’s well-being and education possibilities, the authors substantiate models of social education offered in BA and MA curricula of Vilnius Pedagogical University. The analysis of this experience is based both on personal conclusions and conclusions by other authors. The authors try to base importance of social education modules for educators of social disciplines and other teachers referring to integration of the civic education module into the curriculum of MA in social pedagogy of Vilnius Pedagogical University. The authors emphasize that this orientation is especially important in countries where democracy has just counted first decades and that confront big social challenges
