Every period in a teacher’s career poses its own requirements to the profession. This age of information society and new technologies requires from teachers continuous learning and professional development so that each of them could acquire currently required professional skills, plan for prospects of professional activities, evaluate and think critically and quickly solve emerging problems. The educational reform in Lithuania has completed the first two stages: the draft amendments to the Law on Education have been published, the draft amendments to the Regulations on Teacher Certification is completed and other legal acts are being created. The purpose of the study is improvement of professional self-development of the elementary school teacher. Research objectives: 1. to analyse the needs for continuous education of elementary school teachers and opportunities for meeting them; 2. to find factors which may have impact on self-development of teachers
