The myth about Vilnius' establishement - its dcvelopemcnt and transformations in lithuanian literature since Independence in 1990, mostly in poetry (Marcelijus Martinaitis, Sigitas Geda, Judita Vaičiūnaitė, Kornelijus Platelis, Vladas Braziūnas, Aidas Marčėnas poetry and Antanas Ramonas poetic prose) - is being discussed in the paper. The myth is studied by Lithuanian and foreign myth researchers (Algirdas Julius Greimas, Vladimir Toporov, Norbertas Vėlius, Gintaras Beresnevičius). This myth was axis mundis of the Lithuanian historical world during marginal periods of Lithuania's statehood.
