Dream of Vilnius in the contemporary Lithuanian poetry

The myth about Vilnius' establishement - its dcvelopemcnt and transformations in lithuanian literature since Independence in 1990, mostly in poetry (Marcelijus Martinaitis, Sigitas Geda, Judita Vaičiūnaitė, Kornelijus Platelis, Vladas Braziūnas, Aidas Marčėnas poetry and Antanas Ramonas poetic prose) - is being discussed in the paper. The myth is studied by Lithuanian and foreign myth researchers (Algirdas Julius Greimas, Vladimir Toporov, Norbertas Vėlius, Gintaras Beresnevičius). This myth was axis mundis of the Lithuanian historical world during marginal periods of Lithuania's statehood. The world that opens from the hills of Vilnius, junctions of Nėris and Vilija, the Ševtaragis valley and other important points of historical world-views lets us realize the origins of Lithuanian thinking. Vilnius was became a patent-leather literary cliche in Soviet literature in which the emblem of Maironis' romantic imagination and European culture (forbidden but desirable) criss-crossed. The newest Lithuanian literature ponders spontaneously and intellectually the Vilnius' myth and history, more focusing on versions of Aistian religious world-view. The literary Vilnius nowadays appears like the most important place of creation of etnolinguistic culture in a circle of images of revival like river, manes, death and birth. A dream becomes an unexpected version of the Lithuanian history in the newest Lithuanian literature, a version in which all images of life and death interlaces
