Anglų ir lietuvių kalbų sakinio sintaksinių vienetų nustatymas

The article aims at identifying the syntactical status of the structure |NP1 NP2] in the Lithuanian language, referring to the generative – transformational grammar. Two sentences of the Lithuanian language, containing the said structure, performing the syntactical function of a sentence in the English language, were chosen for analysis. The tests of identification of the syntactical units of the sentence, developed for the English language, were applied in regard to the sentences. The analysis of the tests has shown that one can speak of the structure in question as a separate syntactical unit in the Lithuanian language. The results of the tests also showed that the structures [NPa NPi] and [NPn NPn], the first of which in the Lithuanian language expresses a direct object with the predicative attribute and the second expresses the connector-free objective subordinate clause, syntactically have a similar function. Referring to the aforementioned one could make an assumption that, as in the English language, in the Lithuanian language the structure [NPI NP2] functions as a secondary constituent.
