A seismic refraction experiment with 75 seismometers and 4 explosions (J-1 to J-4) was carried out in the northeastern part of the Hokkaido on July 24, 2000. A 162-km profile extended in the NNW-SSE direction. The profile was geologically located above the Tokoro belt to investigate the deep structure of the back arc of the Kurile Arc and its relation with geothermal gradient. We only measured a one-direction shot. High-quality records were obtained along the profile for J-l and J-4 shots. The large fluctuation among the first arrivals at each station strongly suggests the existence of a very complicated sedimentary layer at the surface.
