<Individual Papers>Cultural activities in the Japan Teachers’ Union’s movements in the early postwar years (Part 2) : A focus on the union organ and the journal

The purpose of this paper is to analyze how and why the National Conference on Educational Research started. To explore the process and reason, I use the official organs of Japan Teacher’s Union (JTU) and associated journals. In particular, I analyze the usage of the term “the cultural activities” because it meant almost the same thing as the training of professional ability. I found that various opinions about “the cultural activities” appeared in the organs and journals. This suggests that the organs and journals had freedom of speech and press. What this finding means is that many claims that Japan Communist Party directly affected the JTU, and that the JTU was a monolithic organization were incorrect
