The purpose of this thesis is to show that the perspective of self directed learning is important to the teaching of High School Integrated Studies. I decided to look at the early example of High School Integrated studies intended to be taught using the perspective of self directed learning in Japan after World War II. I selected and analyzed the following examples : (1) the teaching method used for Current Topics at the early stage in post war era, (2) the voluntary practice of the tentative reform plan of a course of study which was proposed by the Japanese Teacher\u27s Union in 1976.
