This paper focuses on how lecturers at cram schools help ""jyukensei"" (students who are preparing to take the entrance examination) acquire resources necessary to the pass the entrance examination. Using ethnographic data in a cram school for the students who wish to go to the private/national middle schools, it is revealed that lecturers coach students on how to prepare ""adequate"" answers for each particular situation. They also encourage students to pay special attention to parts of expressions such as composition and orthography, for they define the entrance examination as not just an occasion to reach the correct answer uniformly, but as a form of communication between the students and the participants of the middle schools
