This paper examines the effects of interaction with a different cultural environment on personality formation and ego establishment in ten Chinese students, and then draws conclusions concerning the main effects of adjusting to a new cultural identity. An analysis of data from a three-year ethnographic study in K. High School suggests that three key factors influence adjustment: the existence of friends and important others comparisons between Chinese and Japanese schools, and family influences. These three factors are interactive, and influence students\u27adjustment to a new school and the re-adjustment of their cultural identity
