Measurement of Fear-Feeling Experiences Induced by Others in Junior High and High School Students

This study presents five new scales that can measure fear-feeling experiences induced by others in junior high and high school students. Towards this end I designed and then administrated a questionnaire comprised of 47 fear-inducing ("Kowasa") items and 3 pleasure-inducing ("Miryoku") ones to 221 junior high and 245 high school students. Factor analysis was subsequently conducted and five factors were obtained and named, i. e., (1) fear from the wild behavior of others, (2) fear from lack of understanding others, (3) fear from intervention by others, (4) fear by revelation of self inferiorities, (5) fear of hatred or rejection by others. Next, I constructed five corresponding fear scales using the resultsnt factor loading scores. These scales enabled characterization of the student\u27s fear-feeling experiences. In addition to describing the fear scales, I also discuss such experiences with respect to their occurrence in adolescents
