Misiones jesuíticas de Guaraníes (Argentina, Paraguay, Brasil

Among the many actions undertaken by the Compañía de Jesús in America, the experience of the missions of Guaraníes is something remarkable. What the Jesuit carried out in the "Paraguay" can appear to be something positive as well as something negative. But what truly makes the Guaraníes missions an unprecedented experience is the complete set of situations of everyday life and total organizational sense of each part of the mission, set between missionaries, population and the territory. Although we could find antecedents in the Guaraní and Peruvian regions, there are authors who make comparisons with European theories like those of Plato, Saint Agustine, Thomas Moro and Campanella. After some general words about the project the paper continues, describing how in each new enterprise the earlier experiences ruled, developing a pragmatic evolution. The physical planning was accompanied by a general vision of social, cultural, political and economic aspects within a wide religious frame. This frame leaned not only on the vision that the missionary brought from Europe with his beliefs and culture, but that also on the visions on the world and its relation with the natural and the supernatural locally found. The article reviews aspects of geographic environment, bases and antecedents of the project, the general territory, urbanism, Guaraní culture, arts and crafts, social and political organization of the missions, economy and the systems of evangelization.De las acciones emprendidas por la Compañía de Jesús en América; la experiencia de las misiones guaraníes es destacable. Lo que los padres jesuitas llevaron a cabo en lo que se ha llamado “el Paraguay” puede aparecer tanto con signos positivos cuanto negativos. Pero lo que verdaderamente hace de ellos una experiencia inédita es el conjunto de situaciones funcionales; de uso; de vida cotidiana y de sentido organizativo de las misiones; en todas las escalas. Si bien podríamos encontrar antecedentes en la propia región guaranítica y en la peruana; también hay autores que hacen comparaciones con teorías europeas como las de Platón; San Agustín; Tomás Moro y Campanella. Aquí se partió de algunas líneas generales para el proyecto y se continuó con lo que la experiencia iba dictando en cada nuevo emprendimiento y el conjunto tuvo así una evolución pragmática. La planificación física fue acompañada de una visión general de los aspectos sociales; culturales; políticos y económicos dentro de un amplio marco religioso. Este marco se apoyaba no sólo en la visión que el misionero traía de Europa con sus creencias y su cultura; sino que también estaban allí presentes la visión del guaraní sobre el mundo y su relación con lo natural y lo sobrenatural. El artículo pasará revista a los aspectos geográficos, a las barreras y antecedentes del proyecto; al territorio; al urbanismo; a la cultura guaraní, a las artes y los oficios, al a organización social y política, a la economía y a los sistemas de evangelización
