Hypertension is the most important risk factor of cerebrovascular disease. Its management is urgent problem in our community, especially in this era of Brain Attack. It has been established that antihypertensive drug treatment reduces the rate of stroke, not only fatal, but also non-fatal. Recent megatrials show that calcium channel blockers and ACE inhibitors are also effective other than betablockers and diuretics for primary prevention of stroke. But secondary prevention of stroke of these drugs are not established. Further studies are needed to clarify the effect and mechanism of antihypertension treatment for the prevention of stroke.
