It has been suggested recently that autoimmune mechanisms are implicated in the genesis of adverse outcome of pregnancy such as spontaneous abortion, intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), and preeclampsia. In particular anti-phospholipid antibodies (APA) are considered to be linked to the manifestations of such complication of pregnancy.
