This paper gives a descriptive analysis on a linkage of clauses and sentences in English. We have shed light on the characteristics of a linkage of clauses and sentences including “as a matter of fact,” “as + Subject-Auxiliary Inversion construction,” and post-modifying noun phrases. The semantic and functional characteristics of these three expressions have been borne out by observing naturally occurring data
