Factors Related to Satisfaction of Diabetic Patients with their Treatment

This study was designed to clarify the relationship between satisfaction of diabetic patients with their treatment and the therapeutic method/blood sugar control. A questionnaire survey using "Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (DTSQ)" and a fact-finding survey on the implementation of diet therapy were conducted in 171 type II diabetic outpatients of "A" Hospital (107 males and 64 females; mean age, 66.3 ± 10.8 years), and following results were obtained: (1) According to the therapeutic method employed, the degree of patient satisfaction with the treatment was lower in the insulin therapy group than in the oral anti-diabetic agent therapy group (p < 0.05); (2) the degree of patient satisfaction with the treatment was higher in the group showing high degree of implementation of dietary advice than in the group showing poor degree of implementation of dietary advice (p<0.01); (3) the degree of patient satisfaction with the treatment was higher in the group with HbA1c values < 7 % than in the group with HbA1c values > 7.1 % (p < 0.05) ; ( 4) the factor that directly influenced patient satisfaction with the treatment was identified as the degree of implementation of the dietary advice (p = 0.3, p
