This paper reports on the English language curriculum at Rikkyo University. The university-wide curriculum is comprised of a required component for freshmen and an elective component for upper students. This integrated curriculum aims at enhancing students' communicative ability as well as fostering intercultural understanding. We will first give an overview of the curriculum, and then report briefly on the two classrooms observed on December 6, 2002. In conclusion, based upon our findings at Rikkyo University, we will discuss the possibilities for English language education at Niigata University
