World War I and the Very Deliberately Masculine Way of Understanding Politics

En este estudio se quieren poner de manifiesto "los modos de comportamiento deliberadamente masculinos" (Clark, 2014:413) a los que recurren los protagonistas de la Primera Guerra Mundial, todos ellos hombres, en los momentos previos a la guerra y en el desarrollo del propio conflicto. Una guerra en la que la mujer tiene un papel secundario, si bien accede a trabajos antes vedados y exclusivos de los hombres, y que a diferencia de otras guerras anteriores "perseguía objetivos ilimitados" (Hobsbawm, 1995: 37). La I Guerra Mundial, que algunos consideraron como un fatalismo ineluctable y que otros buscaron con urgencia. (Hastings, 2014:37)The purpose of this paper is to show “the deliberately masculine modes of behavior “(Clark, 2014:413) that the protagonists of World War I , all of them men, displayed in the moments previous to the war and during the development of this conflict. A war in which women have a secondary role, although they started doing jobs previously reserved exclusively for men, and differently from earlier ones “it was searching for unlimited goals” (Hobsbawm, 1995:37). For some, World War I was fatally unavoidable, for others there was an urgent need for it. (Hastings, 2014:37)
