Metaphern in der Psychotherapie : von Affekten zu mentalen Repräsenationen

The present study ventures on the pioneer terrain of affect and language in successful psychotherapy sessions and their possible preconscious integration into speech and cognitive processes. Metaphors are proposed to function as a matrix for the elaboration of cognitive and affective contents, as well as for the creation of mental representations. From the perspective of affect research, thought processing and speech production theories, the initial hypothesis of increased production of contextualized, well-applied metaphors in successful treatments was developed. To this purpose, a method for the identification of metaphors was created and tested for inter-rater reliability. Metaphor production and affects, defined as the coding of interactive non-verbal facial expression, were correlated in a sample of ten psychotherapy treatments, which had already been assessed for psychotherapy outcome with other instruments. The former allowed to establish a correlation between facial affects and metaphors in the prediction of psychotherapeutic outcome. In the third part of the study, affects and metaphors were set on a time line to assess and compare their occurrence. Through the use of a computer software, a new procedure for the identification of repetitive patterns in time allowed an innovative, comparative analysis of quantification and occurrence of facial affect and metaphors in the psychotherapeutic dyad.Am Beispiel von Metaphern untersucht die Arbeit die vorbewusste Integration von Affekt und Sprache in erfolgreiche psychotherapeutische Behandlungen. Von der Affektforschung und -theorie über das Denken und Sprechen gelangt die Autorin zum Kommunikations- und Sprechvorgang in Therapien und der Bedeutung metaphorischen Begreifens und Redens als kurativem Bindeglied zwischen Affekt und kognitiven Repräsentationen. Von dieser Grundlage ausgehend entwickelt sie Hypothesen über den Zusammenhang zwischen Behandlungsergebnis von Psychotherapien und Metaphern bzw. mimisch-körperlichen Affektproduktionen, die schließlich an einer Stichprobe von zehn Kurzpsychotherapien überprüft wurden. Dabei wird über die im allgemeinen verwendeten Auswertungen hinaus ein Messinstrument zur Erfassung von Metaphern entwickelt und mit den Affektmaßen, so wie sie aus dem Gesicht abgeleitet werden können, in Beziehung gesetzt. Ebenfalls über die üblichen Maße hinausgehend versucht sie sich an einem neuartigen Mustererkennungsverfahren, welches die Probleme der traditionellen Vorgehensweise teilweise umgeht und eine echte Analyse des Prozesses der Verschaltung von körperlichem Affekt, Metaphernsprache, in der psychotherapeutischen Dyade erlaubt
