Nano-based drug delivery systems (DDS) have attracted great interest recently due to the superior targeting or/and biobarriers-crossing abilities over conventional DDS. Better knowledge regarding cellular uptake behavior of nanoparticles that might be highly relevant to their cytotoxicity and physiological functions is essential. Current work in this aspect was restricted mainly due to lack of rational technique for imaging and quantification.
