Arbetsterapi i grupp som intervention för individer med psykisk sjukdom : En litteraturöversikt

The purpose of this study was through a literature review describe the occupational therapists work using group as an intervention for individuals with mental illness. To be able to answer the question the authors chose to do a literature review to provide a deeper understanding and describe the existing knowledge in their chosen field. Data were collected by the authors carefully and three appropriate keywords were chosen; occupational therapy, intervention and mental illness. Data was collected based on the keywords via selected databases; the search resulted in ten peer reviewed articles. Next step was to analyze the selected articles from a manifest qualitative analysis. Data analysis resulted in three categories: “The occupational group and its structure” and “The interventions used in occupational groups” and “The evaluation and results of using of using occupational groups as an intervention”. The analysis continued with using Creeks (2002) theory to interpret data. The results shows that there are many advantages to working with occupational therapy in a group where participants are trained and given opportunities to manage multiple relationships simultaneously, find role models and provide advice to each other. By using theoretical principles, with a focus on individuals' self-esteem, occupational groups can get structured. The group sessions were also structured by the use of a psychotherapeutic model, or by the Model of Human Occupation [MOHO]. Conclusions to be drawn from this study are that the occupational group provides a natural learning environment where participants can interact.
