Effekten av arbetsterapeutiska interventioner vid fallprevention i den äldres hemmiljö : En litteraturstudie

The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of occupational therapy intervention at fall prevention for the elderly in their own homes. The authors have sought in several subject databases and used keywords based on the purpose, the search eventually resulted in eleven quantitative articles. When analyzing the data, the authors have taken the support of Fischer's (2009) types of interventions as model and described the assessments and interventions on the activity level, functional level and on the environmental. The results of the study demonstrated that all interventions were on activity level as advocated in occupational therapy for a client-centered approach. Many occupational therapy preventive interventions were enviromental adaptation, assistive device and even activity training in order to support the activity. The results showed that association was found between environmental barriers and fall, most of the studies showed a significant effect in form of a reduced number of falls following the intervention. The authors assessed the probative value of the articles that resulted in six RCT studies with high quality which proves the result. The results showed the importance of occupational therapy investigation, assessment and intervention at risk of falling in the elderly when environmental adaption and assistive device are of great importance to prevent falls.Validerat; 20150612 (global_studentproject_submitter
