This essay is an analysis of two putative conceptual metaphors from The New Congregational Hymnbook published in 1885. The aim was to examine metaphoric instances in hymns relative to the Christian life that had a language pertaining to the concepts JOURNEY and WARFARE. This was done in order to see if they could be counted as conceptual metaphors. Furthermore, the aim was also to briefly ponder the probability of the existence of conceptual metaphor as it is presented by Lakoff and Johnson ([1980] 2003) et al.
