Comparsion of timber-house technologies in Slovenia and in Sweden

Although they are few in number, most Slovenian timber buildings combinecontemporary styling with energy-efficiency measures that bring them close to passivehouse standards. Slovenia’s construction industry is widely recognized as being advancedin the field of low-energy buildings. As energy-efficient building methods gainimportance, timber passive houses can play an increasingly important role in the future. The long tradition of timber construction in Sweden is going from strength to strengththanks to the development of advanced, timber structures. Builders and designers knowthat timber is not only an economic building material but it also has the added bonus ofbeing environment-friendly. The industrial manufacture of single-family housing has along tradition in Sweden, and about 90% of all single-family houses are built with at leasta frame of timber. The Swedish national building code has allowed the construction ofmulti-storey timber housing since the mid-1990s. Today, 15% of the newly builtresidential multi-storey buildings have a timber frame, and 80% of the student housingbuilt in Stockholm uses industrialized timber construction systems. This paper give anintroduction to Slovenian and Swedish timber building technologies with an emphasis onthe future use of wood as a sustainable architectural construction material.Godkänd; 2016; 20160309 (dicsan)
