Avregleringen av apoteksmarknaden : En hälsorisk?

In November 2009 the Swedish pharmacy monopoly for some non-prescriptive painkillers was deregulated. The objective was to create increased consumer benefits through competition. Potential benefits were an efficient pharmacy market with increased access, better service and enhanced product range. The consumption of the active substances paracetamol, ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid are examined. Possible changes in consumption, related to the reform, are discussed in relation to the result of a Chow test. The study shows that sales of these drugs have increased with seven percent while the prices have risen. A previous Swedish study has concluded that overconsumption of non-prescriptive painkillers can lead to chronic headaches, called Medical Overuse Headache (MOH). The increased consumption can be expected to lead to increased number of side effects. Since the deregulation the purchase locations have increased from 929 to 6932.
