Var börjar och slutar journalistiken? : En kritisk diskursanalys av journalistikens gränser

This essay puts the journalism concept in focus. The aim has been to find out whether it’s possible to identify some clear limitations on what type of media content that can be said to be journalism. Who has the right to produce it and how does different professionals who produce media content look upon journalism? In this context it has also been of in-terest to seek knowledge of how journalism is related to today's changing media envi-ronment and society on the whole.The essay is based on research and theories of journalism and the growth and develop-ment of the journalist role. The idea has been to get a picture of how the ideals of journal-ism have been shaped and to identify the current discourse in order to set them against the reality of where journalism works today.The methodology used is a critical discourse analysis according to the three-dimensional model of Norman Fairclough. The empirical material is based on personal interviews with five operators who in one way or another and in various media industries have good experience and points of contact with journalism.The result indicates that earlier agreements about what journalism is still dominate the discourse and persist alongside new complex conditions that affect this. The traditional form of "clean" and independent investigating social journalism exists in fact in parallel or in competition with many other forms of media content today.
