Oro och ångest hos personer med demenssjukdom : En fallstudie på ett äldreboende

People with dementia often experience anxiety as a result of their illness with confusion and insomnia as a result. Staff's way of treating people with dementia may both trigger or prevent the initiation of worry and anxiety. The purpose of this study is to explore what affects anxiety in people with dementia in a nursing home and how staff can respond to it. It was conducted by a method of case studies with qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out with observations, interviews and medical records. The study is based on questions about the factors that contribute to the success of staff to respond to people with anxiety, which triggers anxiety, housing design and how different activities affect anxiety? The results of this study show that it is important to try to understand people with dementia reality, using the means of diversion, soothing conversation in which the caregiver has a good knowledge of the dementia sufferer's background, social contacts, interests, culture, and learn to use that knowledge in practical nursing. An important conclusion of the result is that staff should receive training and guidance in trying to see each person's unique situation and assume an attitude in which they primarily seek to understand the concern from the person's perspective.
