My book and accompanying critical analysis argue that the connections between the struggle for civil rights in Ireland and black America have been strong and underplayed for over a century and a half. The book traced the historical links from the 1840s with a focus on the 1960s, and brought new perspectives to the academic research of both contexts, which had generally been explored separately. By reflecting on a review of literature produced since 1998, the critical analysis shows how the book has influenced academic reach since, including on the transnational connections between the two experiences.
