The paper draws on extant literature on the concepts of fulfilment and PC. It utilises social exchange theory (Blau, 1964) to gain an understanding of the employee-organisation relationship, and to explore employees’ perceptions and sense making of the concept of psychological contract. Social exchange theory (SET) has been used as a framework for understanding the employee–organisation relationship (Shore et al., 2009) while the Rousseau’s work on PC (1989, 2004), will be elaborated and developed further to get a better understanding on the employee-employer relationship (Taylor and Tekleab, 2004).
