La pragmática disciplina lingüística que estudia el uso del lenguaje en situaciones concretas de la comunicación humana comenzó a incluirse en investigaciones clínicas y terapéuticas a partir de la década de los años ochenta. Estudios investigativos más recientes realizados por Perkins (1998), Gallardo y Moreno (2006), Muñoz et al. (2006), Baixauli-Fortea et al. (2004), entre otros, así lo corroboran.
