The autonomous operation of an unmanned ground vehicle requires map information to be able to plan its route efficiently. It is possible to obtain information from the vicinity of the machine but ground based machinery is not ideal for quickly mapping large areas of unknown terrain. The aim of this thesis is to make a proof of concept implementation of an aerial system that provides point cloud data to be used for mapping areas. The focus is in areas which do not have many distinctive features, such as dirt fields or forest.
