An evaluation between emotional intelligence and effective leadership styles on corporate culture in a petrochemical organization.

University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville 2015.The topic of emotional intelligence and effective leadership has attracted considerable interest from researchers for many years. Most of the interest in the area is based on claims that emotional intelligence and organizational culture is linked to leadership effectiveness. Many studies have been conducted on the link between emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness this studies examines the relationship between three concepts: emotional intelligence, leadership effectiveness and organizational culture. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership styles with emphasis on corporate culture in a petrochemical organization, and to determine if emotional intelligence can predict an effective leadership style. Extensive study of pertinent literature was made in establishing the research methodology. Perceptions on the current leadership styles, emotional intelligence and the effect on corporate culture were examined. An empirical study was then conducted at a petrochemical company to establish the current leadership style and emotional intelligence. A total of eighty participants were selected in the self-administered questionnaire regardless of occupational level, race, gender and grade participated in the study. The findings were analyzed and the effect upon the employees was reflected in the results and conclusions; while the recommendations gave helpful advice on choice of approaches which would have the intended positive outcomes
