University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban 2014.This dissertation seeks to examine match-fixing and corrupt activities related to sport and in particular analyse critically the efficacy of the present statutory provisions that aim at combating such practices. The following legislation is considered i.e. The Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 12 of 2004; The National Sport and Recreation Act, 10 of 1998; The Prevention of Organised Crime Act, 121 of 1998 and the National Gambling Act, 7 of 2004. The shortcomings of the aforesaid acts as well as the common law offence of fraud are also considered and the merits and demerits of the approach is viewed and found to be inadequate to deter those who want to...
