National audienceMyopathies are rare causes of abnormal liver function tests. Muscular cytolysis, responsible for increase of transaminases predominant on AST, has to be recognized to avoid unnecessary investigations. The abnormalities might also be related to broader spectrum of diseases associating liver and muscular injuries such mitochondrial cytopathy or some metabolic diseases. Therefore, the hepato-gastroenterologist should always consider these extra-hepatic diseases when facing the problem of unexplained raise of transaminases for accurate diagnosis and treatment. © 2019 John Libbey Eurotext.
