THE DIFFERENCE OF EFFECTS OF EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL (EVOO) AND VIRGIN COCONUT OIL (VCO) ON GRADE I PRESSURE ULCERS IN STROKE PATIENTS IN RSUD KRMT WONGSONEGORO SEMARANG

ABSTRACT Endang Supriyanti The Difference of Effects of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) on Grade I Pressure Ulcers in Stroke Patients in RSUD KRMT Wongsonegoro Semarang xviii + 107 pages + 13 tables + 4 figures + 12 appendixes Results of previos study shared, 90% of patients with stroke experiencing paralysis will experience impaired mobilization which causes a constant pressure mechanism, especially in the area of prominent bone (bony prominence). If the pressure persists for 2 hours or more, it will cause irreversible destruction and alteration of the tissue so that a wound is formed. One of the nursing interventions for the prevention of pressure sores, is namely skin care using top virgin olive oil (EVOO) and virgin coconut oil (VCO) topically. EVOO and VCO contain fatty acids that can maintain moisture, flexibility, and smoothness of the skin so as to prevent the occurrence of pressure sores. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the effects of EVOO and VCO on the incidence of grade I pressure sores in stroke patients. The design of this study was quasi experimental with post test only group design. The number of samples was 22 respondents for each EVOO and VCO groups taken by purposive sampling technique. Data collection on the incidence of pressure ulcers was carried out after the respondents were given an intervention in the form of topical EVOO or VCO for three days. The data were analysed using the chi-square test. The results showed that there was no significant difference between EVOO and VCO for the incidence of grade I pressure ulcer in ischemic stroke patients with a significance value of p = 1.000.
