Introduction

In this introduction, the editors of ‘Sustainable Development Teaching: Ethical and Political Challenges’ outline the aims and focus of the book. They argue how the book translates state-of-the-art academic research into teaching models, methods and tools and thus aims to be a support for teachers when handling ethical and political challenges in environmental and sustainability education (ESE). As such, it strives to nourish reflection, inspire innovative teaching practice and offer teacher trainers a coherent theoretical framework and a wide range of empirically grounded knowledge that is useful for training programmes and courses. Subsequently, the editors explain how their book is underpinned by pragmatist educational research, describe how its development has taken shape with a teacher perspective in the forefront and give an overview of the content of the different chapters
