State Conservation Areas (SCAs), as state-owned and -run parks, form the foundation of recognised conservation actions. However, park expansion on the scale required to meet urgent conservation targets is limited by state budgets and parks are increasingly framed in the context of advancing broader societal needs. Motivating for the need to assess the efficacy of alternative conservation strategies, as both contrasting governance and legal mechanisms, this study aimed to rapidly assess the role of private land conservation (PLC) strategies in expanding protection.
