The effect of rehabilitation on the symptoms of anxiety and depression, and quality of life for women after mastectomy and hysterectomy

Aim of research: To find out the effect of the 2-stage rehabilitation on emotional condition and quality of life for women after mastectomy and hysterectomy. Objectives of research: 5. To assess the quality of life, the changes in symptoms of anxiety and depression after rehabilitation for women after mastectomy. 6. To assess the quality of life, the changes in symptoms of anxiety and depression after rehabilitation for women after hysterectomy. 7. To compare the results of quality of life, depression and anxiety symptoms for women after mastectomy and hysterectomy prior and post rehabilitation. 8. To find out the opinion of women after mastectomy and hysterectomy about the rehabilitation procedures, their benefit, and the need of lifestyle medicine professionals during treatment. Methods of research: The research was carried out during the period of April – August, 2018, in Palanga City, Rehabilitation Centre “Palangos linas”. It was attended by 25 – 50 years old 30 women after mastectomy or hysterectomy. They were divided into two groups: 15 women after mastectomy and 15 women after hysterectomy. All participants were familiarized in advance with the research, its aim, objectives, methods, confidentiality of data, and the possibility to discontinue their participation at any moment. The following methods were used for research: 1. Most part of survey were prepared special for this research; 2. Seeking to assess the changes in physical and mental quality of life, SF-36 questionnaire was used; 3. To assess emotional condition, HAD questionnaire was employed. The subjects of both groups were surveyed twice: before rehabilitation and on the last day of rehabilitation. All surveyed ones were answering the questionnaire by themselves (individually). Results: In general group, after rehabilitation, the symptoms of depression reduced statistically significant from 4,83±3,12 to 3,97±3,24 scores (p=0,002), in mastectomy group also reduced statistically significant from 4,67±3,20 to 3,60±3,31 scores (p=0,010). In hysterectomy group from 5,00±3,14 to 4,33±3,24 scores reduced statistically insignificant (p=0,076). The symptoms of anxiety reduced in all groups statistically significant: in general group from 7,43±3,13 to 5,30±2,34 scores (p<0,001), in mastectomy group from 7,47±2,56 to 5,07±1,87 scores (p<0,001) and in hysterectomy group from 7,40±3,70 to 5,53±2,77 scores (p<0,001). Statistically significant improvement of quality of life was also noticed after rehabilitation: mental health (Z=-3,48; p<0,001), physical health (Z=-2,3; p=0,01), physical activity (Z-2,25; p=0,025), bodily pain (Z-2,60; p=0,009), general health condition (Z-3,94; p
