The prevalence of canine Otodectes cynotis infection in Vilnius city

Master Thesis consists of 35 pages, 16 pictures and 30 references. The goal of performed study was to estimate the prevalence of Otodectes cynotis mites in the veterinary clinic “X” of Vilnius city. The data was analyzed according to the animals breed, age, sex, ear shape, keeping conditions and possible contact with other animals. Matherials and Methods: Data was collected between November 2017 and October 2018 from 73 dogs with ear health problems. After clinical examination, two diagnostic tests were performed: otoscopy and ear secretion microscopy. Results and Conclusions: The prevalence of Otodectosis was 36.38% (27 out of 73) and it was higher in female dogs compared to males (55.6% and 44.4%, respectively). The main factor which had highly significant influence on distribution of O. cynotis mites was contact with other dogs, which increased risk of infection on 92.6% (p<0.001).
