Prevalence of pigs sarcocystosis in organic farm

The prevalence and intensity of Sarcocystis spp. infection was investigated among pigs grown in organic and industrial farms. During the investigation was total collected 450 muscles samples: n = 45 organic pigs n = 45 industrial pigs. Using the compress method, sarcocysts were found in all examined groups of muscles. The prevalence of Sarcosporidia infection markedly varied in different groups of muscles. Sarcocystis infection extensity in pigs from organic farm was not high and ranged from 33,3 % to 66,7 %. The highest range of Sarcocystis infection in muscles was found in the diaphragm 66,7 % and neck 46,7 %, lower range was found in ham 37,8 % and the lowest - in the loin and the side (33.3%). Sarcocystis infection extensity in industrial pig muscle ranged from 35,6 % to 66,7 %. The highest range of Sarcocystis infection in pig muscles was found in the diaphragm 66,7 %, lower range was found in jaw 51,1 %, neck and heart 42,2 %, and the lowest in the ham 37,8 %. Statistically prevalence of infection was not related to age of pigs, the highest range of sarcocystis infection was found in 9 month old pigs mucles 28,9 %. Examinated pigs from organic farm were grouped down by gender to obtain extensity results: significantly more female pigs were infected 70,0 % compared with males 30,0 %. Compared the relationship between Sarcocystis invasion intensity and body mass the differences of infection intensity in various muscle groups were statistically insignificant
