Clinical metritis is a common reproductive tract desease, caused by oportunistic microorganisms. It is present in up to 20 - 40% of dairy cows and occurs within 21 days of parturition. Metritis is characterized by enlarge uterus, pyrexia (T > 39,5°C) and watery red-brown fluid to viscous off-white purulent uterine discharge, which has a fetid odour. The most important risk factors associates with metritis include dystocia, male offspring, stillbirth, twins and retained placenta.
