Analysis of animal euthanasia causes X and Y veterinary clinics

Euthanasia is described as a painless death and it raises a lot of various debates in the society. The goal of this paper/thesis is to analyze the cause euthanasia that relates to animals and to distinguish witch illness is most common for animals that receive this practice. Two studies were conducted to analyze this topic. The first research consists of collecting data from X and Y clinics about euthanasia of cats and dogs focusing on their gender, age and breed. The second research is based on an online survey. Euthanasia in the researched clinics was carried out in total 138 times of witch the procedure was performed 77 times to dogs and 61 to cats. The collected data was analyzed according to animal species, age, gender, breed and the cause for euthanasia. The results revealed that euthanasia was performed more frequently on average size species (45 %) and large species males (39 %). Euthanasia is performed more often to short-haired breed males (63 %) and female cats (62 %). Comparing female (39 %) and male (35 %) cats together with female (42 %) and male (41 %) dogs according to age groups, the results revealed that euthanasia is performed most often to 10 - 14 year old animals. Dogs are euthanized more often because of tumor diseases (71 %), males because of osteosarcoma (40 %) and females due to rhabdomyosarcoma and osteosarcoma (33%). Euthanasia if performed to cats most often because of internal illnesses (84 %), especially due to kidney failure (68 %). Results from the second study showed that big breed female dogs are more often euthanized (57 %) and male cats most often in short-haired group (75 %). Comparing cats (females 39 % and males 35 %) and dogs (female 64 % and males 46 %) age groups euthanasia is most often performed to 10-14 age year old animals. Dogs are euthanized most often because of tumor diseases (males 29 %) and old age (females 32 %) while cats are most euthanized due to inner illness (males 50 % and females 46 %).
