A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand, In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science, 2018Parthenium hysterophorus L. (Asteraceae: Heliantheae) is an annual herbaceous plant native to the tropical regions of the Americas, which has become invasive in about 40 countries including India, Australia and South Africa.
