Background: The rotavirus causes the most severe cases of viral gastroenteritis in small children worldwide, resulting in both high morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization has recommended vaccination against the rotavirus since 2009 and the vaccine had been introduced by more than 90 countries in 2017. Since 2014, the vaccine has been offered to all newborn infants in Stockholm and Jönköping counties and it will be introduced into the national Swedish immunization program in September 2019. The aim of this thesis is to create a platform for the national implementation of the rotavirus vaccine in Sweden.
