The use of surface coatings is emerging as one of the most important approaches in reducing friction and wear in various tribological applications. Even though single layer coatings have a wide range of applications, the performance of the single layer alone may not always be adequate to meet the desired tribological property requirements. Hence, coatings consisting of multi-layers to meet different property requirements in demanding applications are required.
