Effects of the safety work in the society (ESS) is a five year project funded by the Agency for Civil Contingencies. This is a substudy within the ESS and the writers are looking at problems within the sub-area accidents on landfills with a focus on fires. The aim of the account is to report the conditions and circumstances that are common before, during and after fires at landfills, to identify weak areas and improve fire safety work, and also to make proposals about improvements of the subject.To achieve the goals the authors conducted literature studies and three case studies, in the form of site visits and interviews on landfill sites that have been affected by fires.
