The Java Platform, Micro Edition is a widely adopted technology to, in a controlled way, introduce third party developers to the otherwise inaccessible platforms in mobile phones, and at the same time allow applications to run on devices from different manufacturers. Ericsson Research would like to investigate the possibilities to develop conversational real-time services using Java ME, and thus the purpose of this report is to conduct such an investigation. A problem with developing such services in Java ME is the very limited and inconsistent support for real-time multimedia among devices.
